The day….

Today is the day.

Today is THE day.

Today is the day we finally turn to my son/daughter and say:  “I don’t care how comfortable you are in there.  It’s time you came out of your womb and joined the rest of society!  I don’t care if all the other parents are letting their kids stay in the womb until all hours of the evening.  You’re going to go outside and get some fresh air!”

Or perhaps that’s a conversation we have down the road.

In any case, today is the day.

She is beautiful. Enjoy these blissful first few days of staring and marveling at your daughter. A newborn baby is a truly miraculous thing.

Hmmm. I thought you didn’t find out the sex?

Funny story. We didn’t find out the sex with either of our kids. With Kate, we had an envelope with the genotype in it from the amnio, but we didn’t open it. With Sam, it was Kim’s decision to not find out. During one of her ultrasounds, there was an intern on her first day of an OB rotation observing. She blurted out, “So its a girl.” Poor girl probably quit medicine after feeling the fury of a pregnant woman. We tried to ignore her comment, but it was very difficult. Turns out she didn’t know what she was talking about as months later Samuel was born.

No, we didn’t find out the sex. Everyone thought it was a boy. By the way she had been carrying, by this sign, by that…Everyone. Including us.

Big surprise.
