Anyone want some sand?

Today my in-laws dropped by for a second attempt at installing my daughter’s brand new Sandbox.

As you may recall, the first attempt did not go as planned.  An overly enthusiastic watering schedule on my part kept us from having a stable surface to traverse upon.  A quick consultation with the landscaper led me to basically leave my lawn alone for almost a whole week.  Today it was firm enough to walk on most of the lawn without feeling like you were walking on some wierd green pillows.

I of course was working today, so I missed out on most of the fun.  I did get out there during lunch, so I probably put in a good half hour of shovelling out of the two hour experience.  Just long enough to get a blister on my palm.

Awesome.

So the sandbox is set up.  Our daughter hasn’t gotten a chance to play in it yet as she and her grandparents went up to Madison after a long stroller ride.  But there’s plenty of time.

The really sad part just how little sand we used from our mountain.  Consider this:   we filled a sandbox that measures eight foot by eight foot by one foot on the inside rim.  And we still have this in our driveway:

We’ve basically begged three neighbors to take some sand off our hand.  I think one may have offered to take a wheelbarrow full, but the other two may just end up taking a yard bag or two.

I’ve been directed to examine whether craigslist carries advertisements for our area.

  1. Spread it out. Put out some beach chairs. Serve drinks with umbrellas.

Sand is wasted on the young.
