Today, just before I signed off from work for the day, the Fedex guy arrived with my new laptop. In fact, I’m typing this post from the new laptop right now.
I have to say that the laptop’s arrival is extremely timely. This morning I came downstairs to find that my ailing computer had blue-screened at some point during the evening.
It was an odd one, though. The screen wasn’t filled with the mysterious collection of hex code and English that so often characterizes the Blue Screen of Death. It was a single sentence: ”Hardware parity check failure. Contact your manufacturer…and kiss your ass good-bye.”
Ok, maybe I added that last part myself.
Those of you who are not “In the Know” might not know it, but that’s a Bad Thing.
Figuring it’s another hard drive failure, I dug around the guts of my computer and disconnected the one that I thought the most likely candidate. Luckily, I was right. Unfortunately I was down to one hard drive at this point. Fortunately I hadn’t really generated any new content since yesterday, so most everything was probably backed up…probably.
So it was very timely that my laptop arrived today. Right now I’m the process of figuring out what applications need to be installed on my new laptop and what can be left to die with the old tower.
It’s not as fun as it sounds. Change is a pain in the rear.
