Four days…one nap…and one cranky toddler…Part 1

So I mentioned in previous posts that these next few weeks would be pretty hectic for my little family.

We just completed one round of travel and are looking ahead to another one coming up.   And then another one after that.  And then my wife’s OB is going to order physical restraints for my wife to prevent her from traveling during the dwindling few weeks of her pregnancy.

This past weekend we traveled to Boston for a wedding.   The bride had asked my wife to participate as a bridesmaid (actually she hadn’t, but that’s a funny aside for another time), so we ended up staying in the Gloucester, MA for a bit longer than we otherwise would have.

It was a fun.  It was also very trying.  But we managed.

We decided to travel on Butt-Crack-Of-Dawn flights to and from the Boston area.  We imposed ourselves on my wife’s sister and husband who  lived near the Milwaukee airport, thus gaining at least two hours of precious precious sleep before rousing ourselves to get to the airport.   It would turn out that we would need that sleep.  We did not get a whole bunch of it during the rest of the weekend.

We got into Boston mid-morning, and we were up to the hotel in Gloucester, MA by early afternoon.  Improbably our daughter managed not to nap the whole way to the hotel.  I blame the 30 minute catnap she got on the airplane.  It was after we got into our room that we discovered that we had been invited to the family dinner that evening…back in Boston.  Another napless hour in the car later, and we were meeting the families that would soon be joined together.  It was actually a lot of fun.   It seemed like everyone in the room had recently gotten a digital SLR of some kind or another.  The groom’s father, in fact, had bought a Canon just that morning.  Just for this occasion.  The combined output of the flashes going off could have powered a small solar farm for at least a few days.

My daughter had a lot of fun.  The party took place at the groom’s parent’s home.  They were obviously skilled parents and grandparents.  They took my daughter straight back to a sun room stuffed to the gills with a veritable plethora of toys.  She was pleased.

The evening drew to a close. We said our goodbyes and packed the little one back into her carseat.  An hour or so later, she was still awake as we pulled into the parking lot of the hotel.  She remained up until 10:30 PM that night.

Signs of things to come.  But more later.
