It’s never easy.
Nothing really is…but for me, installing a new operating system is definitely up there.
This weekend I got my windows 7 upgrade discs. Well Friday really. After I finished my work for the day, I decided to pop in the discs and let fly.
Today I’m writing this post from my iPhone. That’s how well things have gone.
To be fair, I don’t think I’m going to blame Microsoft. The actual upgrade went excedingly well. The problems really started when Dell started to upgrade all of it’s components. That did not go well. Many of them crashed. And then their “upgrade assistant” didn’t recognize the failure and completed the process. I spent a chunk of time yesterday trying to reinstall software.
I thought everything was good. Windows 7 booted and seemed to function. But as I applied the last set of Dell applications and patches I found myself having to reboot. As it was late, I decided to shut down instead.
This morning my computer wouldn’t boot.
I’ve spent the last hour working carefully with system restore tryin to get my machine up and running. I think I may finally have found the appropriate combination of restore points and settings.
Hopefully I’ll soon have a fully restored laptop. Hopefully.
