Assignment: Holiday Memories

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Digital Photography School weekly assignment.  It occurred to me last night that I’ve probably taken several thousand pictures since I last submitted an entry, and they’ve mostly been of my children.

It’s probably good for me to keep trying to explore new styles and new situations for photography.  When I clicked over for the assignment running from 12/9 to 12/23, I remembered that I had recently taken this picture on a whimsy:

SOMMFA!!!!!!

We are currently watching the Soup.

The Soup just did something that caused me to yell and curse in front of my wife and newborn child.

I happen to watch the Showtime series Dexter.  Because I don’t happen to get Showtime via cable, I’ve been watching the show via DVD.  Obviously that means I am generally behind the rest of the viewing public.

But that’s ok.  I’ve avoided most spoilers.  I’ve done so for two years now.

And tonight…the Soup basically showed me the ending for Season 4.

Darn it.  Darn it all to heck.

An Important Lesson

My (eldest) daughter learned an important lesson tonight:

Always hold on…to the balloon string.  Always.

The lesson did not go over well.

Also, I’m about 30 minutes into this series of videos reviewing the Phantom Menace (yes, it’s a little behind).  It’s hilarious…if extremely NSFW.

Correcting Confusion

Wife:  You need to post more pictures.

Me:  I did.

Wife:  No you didn’t.  You haven’t put anything up since we left the hospital.

Me:  I just posted over 100 new images the other day.

Wife: Where?  I can’t see them

[I fumble around a bit with the computer] Me:  Here!  Look!  You just click the Gallery option.

Wife:  When I click “Gallery”, it doesn’t take  me there.  I don’t see that screen and I don’t see those pictures.

Me:  …but…but…they’re there.

Wife:  Husband, I assure you…you are delusional.

So…the last set of pictures I did not bother to organize into Sets on Flickr.  I just put them into my photostream.  The link at the top of my blog had gone just to my “Sets” page.

I have corrected the issue.  I now have links to both my sets and my photostream.

Enjoy.

More images have been uploaded.  I haven’t organized them into sets.

In fact, I may spend some time reorganizing the sets I already have.

So you may want to just look at the photostream directly.

Errr…I’m still here

Ok, I was originally going to title this “Not gone, just resting”, but people might get the wrong idea.

I’m going to try to get back to regular posts this week. Right now I’m going to bed.

Odd timing

In the past six hours we’ve probably piled in as many inches of snow. And there’s signs that we could get another six before morning.

It’ll probably taper off at another two or three, but the weathermen seem nervous.

Of course tomorrow is the day I’m supposed to head back to work. Fortunately, my commute is just about a minute.

Of course if school is cancelled, the m our daycare will be closed as well. My wife is not yet up to solo parenting for two kids, so I may end up burning another PTO day.

Oh…wow. It’s thundering out there. That’s never a good thing.

Digital Silence

Paternity leave has flown by. No meaningful posts, just a quick picture from my iPhone. (from which I am also posting this)

Finally a moment to think

Before I get going, I should mention that I’m not necessarily going to be posting a blurb saying that I’ve uploaded new pictures.  (I have, by the way.)  Feel free to check on my progress either through the Gallery link at the top of the page or by bookmarking my photostream.  Actually, if you’re familiar with RSS feed readers, you should be able to add my photostream to your reader and essentially be notified on new activity.

So it’s Wednesday, and I honestly feel this is the first moment I’ve had to really post anything.  The Younger was born on Thanksgiving.  Friday was hectic and happy and visits and relearning all the skills I had put away two years ago when the Elder ceased to be quite so…little.  Saturday was more of the same.  We came home on Sunday, and reality started to sink in.  Monday I managed to get most of the bags that we just kind of threw here and there on our way in.  Tuesday was more cleaning and organizing.  And today I spent half the day in the bathroom as my eldest, who had spiked a fever and thus was home, insisted on sitting on potty until she accomplished something.

Now we’re all kind of adapting.   I have to say that both of my daughters have pleasantly surprised me.

The Younger is a Sleeper.  She sleeps, a lot.  Much more so than I remember the Eldest sleeping at a similar age.  So far that’s gone well.  But then again, it’s only been six days.

The Eldest…she’s obsessed with her sister.  In a good way.  She wants to hold her baby sister.  She talks about the baby all the time.  When she sees her little sister, she immediately asks if she can hold her.  When the baby cries, she runs over to where ever she is and tries to comfort the crying infant.   It’s really cute, actually.  Again, it’s only been six days yet.

In any case, we’re surviving.   At this point I’m only a little sleep deprived.  Of course, I’m still on paternity leave and waking up a little later than normal.  That could have something to do with it.

The best is yet to come.
